The 3D molecule is searchable via four ways: Name, Formula; 2D Structure; Point Group and Image Recognition. Symmetry elements – rotation axis (C); reflection plane; inversion point (i) and improper rotation (S) can be selectively displayed on the scalable 3D molecule. On touch, the symmetry operation e.g. C6 – 60o rotation, is performed and the user can pause/resume movement at any time.

The corresponding 2D image with a symmetry element can also be shown. Tapping the point group would display the character table. A quiz mode is available for which each time has 7 symmetry element questions followed by 3 point group questions, for self-assessment. Chemistry undergraduates are encouraged to download this application to supplement their individual learning purposes. This mobile application is a joint project between the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, and School of Computing, both from the National University of Singapore.

[/vc_column_text][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”5227,5228″ img_size=”full” onclick=”custom_link” custom_links_target=”_blank” custom_links=”#E-8_aHR0cHMlM0ElMkYlMkZhcHBzLmFwcGxlLmNvbSUyRnNnJTJGYXBwJTJGaWQxMTg1MjU3MjA5JTJDaHR0cHMlM0ElMkYlMkZwbGF5Lmdvb2dsZS5jb20lMkZzdG9yZSUyRmFwcHMlMkZkZXRhaWxzJTNGaWQlM0Rjb20uZ2xhLm1vbGVjdWxhcm1ldGhvZHMlMjZobCUzRGVuX0dC”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″ css=”.vc_custom_1575563159173{padding-top: 100px !important;}”][vc_single_image image=”4881″ img_size=”full” css=”.vc_custom_1576557551615{margin-right: 5% !important;border-right-width: 5% !important;padding-right: 10% !important;}”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″ css=”.vc_custom_1575563367472{padding-top: 100px !important;}”][vc_custom_heading text=”3D Sym Op” font_container=”tag:h1|text_align:left” google_fonts=”font_family:Open%20Sans%3A300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C600%2C600italic%2C700%2C700italic%2C800%2C800italic”][vc_column_text]Institution: National University of Singapore URL: http://cit.nus.edu.sg/lift/projects/computing/creating-chemistry-related-mobile-apps.html[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] “3D Sym Op” is an educational app designed to visualise the symmetry elements and operations on molecules of various point groups.
